Job Title - Night Shift Online Mechanic Overtime (FLSA) - Non-Exempt
Group - Operations Manager - Manager - Night Shift

JOB SUMMARY Provide a concise overview of the essential function, purpose, & major objective of this job.

Makes repairs, change overs, trouble shoots problems, orders parts, and assists in continuous improvement of the preventive and predictive maintenance program. Performs electrical/mechanical related duties as required.

Operates a variety of highly sophisticated food packing machines and is responsible for running the line so that production orders are met in the time frames needed. May run different machines on different lines during the work week.
-Ensures the quality of the product passing through their section of the line
-Tracks machine performance to determine maintenance requirements
-May be responsible for coding the line and machine for the run

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES List major duties & responsibilities of importance, including purpose of each.

  • Operates a variety of highly sophisticated food packing machines, ensuring the production schedules are met. Primary focus of equipment and machinery include: Filler/Capper, Labeler, Tamper Evident Sealer, Carton Machine, Tray Packer, Shrink Wrap/Heat Tunnel/Case Packer Sealer, Video Jets, Accumulating Table, Palletizer

  • Monitors the machine to ensure it is running properly and at an appropriate speed

  • Feeds the machine with packaging material, ensuring the material is appropriate for that production run. Can shut down production line if a serious problem is detected.

  • Prepares the machine for the production run each day and prior to each change over.

  • Performs mechanical and electrical adjustmetns and repairs with the assistance of the machine operator, and calls the 1st shift maintenance team leader for mechanical/electrical assistance when needed

  • Obtains and enters the appropriate code for the run, if necessary

  • Inputs appropriate production and/or material movement data into the manufacturing system in a timely and accurate manner

  • Cleans and maintains designated machinery and work area around it

  • Good team and communication skills

  • Reports directly to the 1st Shift Maintenance Team Leader and indirectly to the Packaging Line Team Leader

  • Good attendance is necessary

  • Responds immediately to line downtime issues

  • Makes online repairs, change overs (with line technician), trouble shoots problems, orders parts, and assists in continuous improvements of the preventive and predictive maintenance program

  • Performs electrical and mechanical related duties as required

  • Coordinates scheduled downtime for repairs, service, and/or maintenance

  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Control and electrical systems

  • Continuous cross-training on designated line machine, scheduled by 1st Shift Maintenance Team Leader

  • Maintains daily work log

  • Other duties in support of the factory and company as directed by the Production Manager

  • Works in a plant/production and bottling/packaging line environment. Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time (up to 12 hours daily) and work overtime as required. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. periodically. Able to work around chemicals and mechanical noise

Qualifications State normal minimum education, experience, specialized knowledge and critical skills required.

-High school diploma or equivalent
-2 years industrial electrical/mechanical experience
-Vocational/technical training in electrical/mechanical, electrical/instrumentation, or electrical license preferred
-Able to read blueprints and wiring schematics
-Able to work well with all levels of employees and willing to learn and develop skills
-PLC trouble shooting and programming experience preferred
-Forklift and Boomlift Certification
-Courteous and polite behavior
